Happy First Day of School!

Wow, today is the first day of my fifth year of teaching! Today the students are doing a lot of orientation activities, so I’m just leading home room sessions and will start my US History classes later this week. Here’s what the first day looks like for me:

Yep, that’s my classroom! I teach at a virtual school so my students and I are all doing school from our own homes all day. I got my office freshly cleaned and organized and I’m so ready for the year!

When we start our actual courses this week I’ll be using my “A History of Me – Historical Thinking Skills Back to School Activity” as an informal assessment and to get to know each student a bit. I have mostly 9th graders with a few upperclassmen mixed in, and I find that this activity works well for all of those levels. It is great for assigning virtually (especially if you are at a Google School) because it is already a Google Slides document, but it also prints easily.

My local Biggby Coffee gave all teachers a free drink today, so this Butter Bear Latte is going to power me through my afternoon assessment session and after school tutoring!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic start to the school year!
